Mandrem adopts novel way; clean wells, lakes

PERNEM: Frustrated over the irregular water supply, Mandrem locals with the support of the panchayat have adopted a novel way of cleaning the wells, lakes and springs in the village to meet their daily requirements.
The youth too joined the villagers in cleaning the natural water bodies as part of the watershed management and water conservation. 
Each Sunday, a group of villagers clean up the wells and springs which have remained unused for years. 
The group cleans the water bodies to ensure that fresh groundwater is released to people for their daily consumption and other purposes.
Mandrem is facing irregular water supply and acute shortage for many years. 
Despite several complaints, the locals claim that the authorities have failed to solve the problem forcing the villagers to take up to water conservation.
