Manovikas postpones reopening of school to JunE 17

Manovikas School has decided to again postpone the reopening of their school to June 17, citing delayed arrival of the monsoon as the reason. The PTA and other parents met the principal and trustees of the school where the decision was taken.
Sources, however, said that since the air surrounding the school remains polluted, most parents requested the management to postpone the reopening.
Parents also suggested that air purifiers be installed in classes to provide a permanent solution for the problem and pollution meters in the school to check the quality of air.
In a letter, parents requested the school to provide measureable criteria on the air quality in the school premises, thus establishing that the school was fit for reopening.
The Chairman of the school board has agreed to allow installation of monitors to measure the particulate matter which parents will be following up on.
Parents said that upon walking through the school corridors, there was a faint smell of smoke and smoke is still visible emerging from the garbage dump.
“I feel the school should put pressure on the authorities with regard to removal and shifting of the dump. I am sure the parents would cooperate, thus creating a clear environment for their kids. Perhaps this fire though hazardous was an eye-opener to all,” a parent told Herald.
