MAPUSA: The KTC bus stand at Mapusa was inundated in several places as heavy rains lashed Mapusa town on Tuesday night.
According to reports, KTC authorities had reportedly failed to repair and tar the roads at the bus stand and as a result, rainwater got accumulated in several places.
Muddy water containing animal faeces and other waste that had collected at the entrance of the market sub yard made it difficult for the public to enter the municipal market and the sub yard.
As the ground had become slippery, the people had a tough time walking over the water, while vehicles passing in the area were splashing muddy water on the commuters.
Water-logging was also reported in front of the KTC booking counter, from where the shuttle buses leave for Panjim. Instead of flowing down the drain, rainwater got accumulated at the booking counter.
“The KTC spends huge amounts of money on maintenance of their vehicles, but is not bothered to spend a few lakh on maintenance of the bus stand to provide better service to the passengers,” complained Sarvesh Naik, a passenger from Sanquelim.
“Every year, commuters face the same problem at this bus stand. Visiting this bus stand during the rains has become a nightmare,” Naik added.
