MAPUSA: Wrong parking, encroachment, unauthorised sale of food items and open urination are some of the ills plaguing the Mapusa bus stand. This was found during a joint inspection of various government departments on Wednesday.
GOACAN coordinator Ronald Martins, who organised the inspection, said that two-wheelers were found parked between the bus bays causing inconvenience to the public. “Shops have encroached on the bus stand area and have made extra space for themselves to stock items such as tobacco and more,” he said.
He said that shops selling food items were doing so without FDA licence.
“The bus stand area was stinking due to open urination and this could lead to outbreak of disease,” he said and regretted that all these are happening under the nose of the Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd.
He said that the bus stand does not have CCTV surveillance system and extinguishers. “There is unauthorised parking all over the bus stand; the pay parking contactor has not displayed parking rates; garbage is dumped on both entry and exit points of the bus stand; stray animals loiter around and squat in the bus stand,” Martins said.
The inspection team included officers from Transport, FDA, Traffic Cell, Civil Supplies, Health and Weights and Measures.
