Mapusa citizens call for police presence, CCTVs at schools, to deter crimes

“We also request the government to issue strict orders to the management of schools to install CCTV cameras on the premises and also to maintain them,” said Sanjay Barde, a social activist and president of Shri Bodgeshwar Xetkari Samiti.

MAPUSA:  Citizens from Bardez, especially from Mapusa town, met SDPO Jivba Dalvi on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum demanding the deputation of police personnel at schools, due to the prevailing fear of kidnappings and other crimes.

“The kidnapping attempts being reported across the State have sent parents of little ones into a panic. The home department should take this matter seriously as some parents are considering keeping their children home. The exams are fast approaching, children cannot skip their classes,” said Sanjay Barde, a social activist and president of Shri Bodgeshwar Xetkari Samiti.

In the memorandum, Barde mentioned the recent kidnapping attempt at a school in Mapusa and lamented that schools are no longer safe places for children. The group called on the police to also take strict action against any suspicious people loitering around school campuses.

“We also request the government to issue strict orders to the management of schools to install CCTV cameras on the premises and also to maintain them,” said Barde.
