MAPUSA: The Mapusa Municipal Council has terminated the pay parking contract of Suraj Azgaonkar of Mapusa taxi stand due to non-payment of contract amount.
The contract was to end in March 2018 but the MMC had to terminate the contract since the contractor failed to cough up dues of Rs 2 lakh to Mapusa Municipal Council.
The contractor was supposed to make a payment of Rs 7 lakh per year to the Mapusa Municipal Council.
Sources also informed that the two cheques of Rs 2 lakh issued by the contactor to Mapusa Municipal Council had bounced but still the contactor continued to collect parking fees from motorists and four- wheelers.
The contactor was collecting Rs 20 from motorists although the parking fee amount was fixed at Rs 10 for the first two hours and Rs 5 for every next hour.
MMC had started receiving complaints of customers of overcharging by the contractor.
Till the next contractor is appointed, the pay parking fee will be collected by Mapusa Municipal Council staff, the chairperson Rohan Kavalekar said.
