Mapusa cops hike fine on wrong parking

MAPUSA: Mapusa residents as well as those visiting the town will now have to be cautious before they park their vehicles in the ‘No Parking’ area.
The police have increased the penalty for parking violations to curb haphazard parking on roads and in ‘No Parking’ areas which leads to traffic congestion in the city.
Traffic PI Tushar Vernekar said that Rs 300 is charged for parking violations. Of the Rs 300, “R. 200 goes to the municipality and Rs 100 to the traffic police department. The four-wheeler owners are only charged a fine of Rs 100 as we do not have a vehicle to toll their vehicles and hence just clamp their tyre. The fines have been hiked around three months ago,” he said.
