PORVORIM: Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) on Tuesday decided to develop the Gandhi Chowk through MPLAD fund and undertake upgradation of infrastructure at the ground at Ganeshpuri through Goa State Urban Development Agency.
At the meeting, MMC Chairperson Sandeep Falari stated that Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik has agreed to offer funds to develop the Gandhi Chowk.
“Gandhi Chowk is at the entrance of Mapusa town and if this area is beautified, then it would add glamour to the town. Further, the infrastructure at the ground at Ganeshpuri needs to be upgraded to enable the youth to play games. The work will be undertaken by GSUDA,” informed Falari.
With regard to construction of multi-level parking near Alankar Theatre, Councillor Adv Subhash Narvekar said multi-level parking will accommodate only 20 vehicles.
“MMC should first find out how many vehicles in the garden area where multi-level parking building is proposed to be constructed can be parked. If this area can accommodate about 20 vehicles, then there is no point in investing Rs 40 lakh in the multi-level parking project and the amount can be utilized for other developmental activities,” said Narvekar. Chairperson Falari assured to look into the matter.
The councillors also sought to know what action MMC has taken to solve the parking problem in the town. Falari said once the Master Plan of Mapusa is finalized, the KTC bus stand will be shifted and the entire space at the existing bus stand will be utilized for parking. “The process of acquisition of land at Morod for parking purpose has already started,” added Falari.
