MAPUSA: Mapusa residents on Wednesday threatened to launch a massive agitation on the MMC over the plot development activity taking place at Cunchelim ground.
Residents and sports lovers from Mapusa gathered at the ground on Wednesday for a site inspection. The joint inspection was scheduled at 11 am at the ground in presence of the complainant, municipal officials, mamlatdar, comunidade members and other authorities.

When the residents reached the spot, it was found that none of the authorities were present for the inspection. However, the workers, who were busy working on the access road to the ground, fled after witnessing the residents.
Shiv Sena State president Jitesh Kamat said, “Till now we took legal steps to stop this illegal work but now a massive agitation will be held. Taking advantage of the lockdown, work of development of plots has been undertaken. Sixty per cent work was carried during lockdown by keeping the people in the dark”.
Kamat said, “The Joint inspection was called but none of the authorities were present. When we reached here, the workers stopped the work and fled. On one side, the municipality is talking about restoring the ground in the ODP and on other side it is supporting the illegal development of plots”.
NCP’s Sanjay Barde said, “The municipality is not ready to repair the damaged roads in its jurisdiction but now is undertaking work of the access road to the ground which means that the municipality is supporting the illegal development of plots. It is questionable why municipal council is taking so much interest in this development of plots. This work is totally illegal”.
