A visit to the building revealed the utter neglect by the concerned authorities with the toilet pipes and chambers broken.
The pipes in the toilets of mamlatdar and deputy collector’s offices are broken as a result of which the waste instead of finding its way into the chambers flows on the footpath behind the building, which is used the staff and the people for parking their vehicles.
And to add to this, a lady has been reportedly running a canteen for many years at the very site where the waste flows.
The concerned officials are reported to have neglected the problem since the last year.
The canteen owner said, “The pipes are leaking since last year but nothing has been done. Each person visiting my canteen complains of foul odour emanating from the chamber, which makes them uneasy to sit and eat in the canteen. Last week Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza visited and took stock of the situation. He assured that the problem will be solved at the earliest”.
Mapusa PWD Junior Engineer, Anthony Rodrigues said, “The tender was passed four months back but the work got delayed due to non-availability of funds. The work has already started and according to the contractor it will be completed within ten days”.
