MAPUSA: The Mapusa Municipal Council has decided to allow Matoli Bazzar near Shakuntala statue area following COVID-19 norms.

Items such as furniture, fire crackers stalls, stalls by self-help groups, cloths and electric goods will be allowed to sell at Mapusa taxi stand with limited vendors in order to maintain the government COVID guidelines.

The decision was taken during a joint meeting conveyed by Chairperson Shubhangi Vaigankar in presence of Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza and councillors.

“Matoli Bazaar will be allowed on the entire stretch from Nasnodkar Jewellers to JK Wines in front of Shakuntala statue. Firecrackers and hazardous items and self-help groups will be allowed at Aram soda lane. Cloths and other items will be accommodated at taxi stand,” the MLA informed.

“We have made provision for around 150-200 vendors but depending on the number of applications received provision will be made. Parking will be along the entire stretch in front of jeweller shops and earlier where the Matoli vendors used to sit it won’t be allowed,” Joshua said.

Chairperson Vaigankar said, “We will allow limited vendors in the market so that social distancing can be followed. We are planning to have parking provision at Bodgni and at the demolished Old Asilo site. Parking at Shakuntala statue will be moved out.”
