Mapusa: Praising the tenure of the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) Ryan Braganza said theirs is one of those councils, which didn’t witness any no-confidence motion against them, which he said is a big achievement. He added that as a result of that, the council succeeded in taking up various development works in Mapusa worth around Rs 80-90 crores in the last five years
Braganza claimed that under the guidance of former Chief Minister (late) Manohar Parrikar and former DY CM & Mapusa MLA (late) Francis D’souza, the council had groomed with stability throughout in the last five years where various development works were taken up as promised.
“We have taken up various projects like vegetables market; redevelopment of Lohia Garden; renovation of various chowks under CSR; revenue generating projects like meat and beef market; garage project and others using different funds including the 14th, 15th
finance and municipal funds,” Braganza added.
“The Council has provided better door-to-door garbage collection, acted swiftly on stray cattle menace problems in the city. We have succeeded in tackling flooding issues in the market despite the record breaking monsoon this year and have also stayed away from corruption allegations”, Braganza added further.
Former Chairperson Sandip Falari said, “Most of the assurances given in the manifesto have been fulfilled. We have taken up works of creating infrastructure besides various development works”.
Former Chairperson Rohan Kavlekar added,“ The Council have taken up those works, which people wanted us to do instead of doing the work proposed by us including the Mapusa Bus stand project”.
Mapusa MLA Joshua D’souza, whose term as councillor also concluded, said, “I have started my career as a councillor in MMC and the council was my entry into politics. With the support of the councillors and support of people, we have succeeded in doing various works. I think the existing panel of councillors should remain but we have to see the reservation of wards.”
