PORVORIM: Mapusa Merchants Association (MMA) has requested Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza to advise Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) to execute lease agreement with them for 99 years pertaining to their shops instead of renewing the same every three years.
In a memorandum submitted to D’Souza, MMA stated that they were allotted shops in the market on lease basis about 60 years ago on certain terms and conditions. When MMC send them notice to sign new lease agreement after every 3 years, they found the format of the lease agreement changed and new clauses incorporated, which are detrimental to their interest.
“MMC should be advised to execute lease agreement for 99 years, which will avoid the confusion of signing new lease agreement of different format every 3 years. Industrial Development Corporation offers its sheds to the entrepreneurs on lease basis for 99 years. MMC should also follow similar method pertaining to our shops,” states the memorandum.
Speaking to Herald, MMC president Yeshwant Gaundalker said the deputy chief minister gave a patient hearing to their grievances and assured that he will advise MMC to consider their request.
