PONDA: Marcaim MGP MLA Sudin Dhavalikar and Shiroda BJP MLA Subhash Shirodkar differed on the need to impose a lockdown.
Dhavalikar called for an immediate lockdown in Vasco, Chicalim, Dabolim and Sancoale in view of the rising COVID-19 cases. He also pointed out that eight health workers had also tested positive and that the government should take responsibility in curtailing the spread of coronavirus in the State.
He also commented on the Goa Governor writing to the Chief Minister about implementing austerity measures and pointed out that he had made a similar demand earlier. He also warned that the State is at the risk of going into a debt that it won’t be able to recover from.
On the other hand, Shirodkar said putting entire Vasco town under lockdown would not be fair to the 5,000-odd families because of cases in Mangor hill, which is now a containment zone.
He also pointed out that the recovery rate for COVID cases has been 50 per cent. While admitting it will take time for a vaccine to be found, he said people should not panic over COVID as it is treatable.
