Margao carnival: 130 cops to man traffic

The Margao traffic police will deploy around 130 personnel to man traffic on the day of the float parade in the city on Sunday, even as the police asked the Margao Municipal Council to start the carnival float parade in the city on February 10 on time.

MARGAO: The Margao traffic police will deploy around 130 personnel to man traffic on the day of the float parade in the city on Sunday, even as the police asked the Margao Municipal Council to start the carnival float parade in the city on February 10 on time.

After a joint meeting with Margao Municipal Chairperson, Arthur D’Silva, Chief Officer Sandhya Kamat and Additional Collector, Deepali Naik, DySP Guruprasad Mhapne said that the heavy traffic entering the city will be stopped at Borda when the float parade is kicked-off from the Holy Spirit Church Square at 3:30 pm on Sunday.

He said heavy traffic coming into the city will be diverted via the eastern by-pass, while north-bound heavy traffic coming from Navelim will be stopped at the Navelim Church.

DySP Mhapne said that route buses and light vehicular traffic will be allowed entry into the city via the flyover and will be diverted via the Tourist Hostel, Woodland and Abade Faria Road.
