MARGAO: State authorities have directed the Margao Municipal Council to address the issue of encroachments along the Ring Road in Margao, after an inspection conducted on Wednesday.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, accompanied by Additional Collector -I, South Goa Srinet Kothwale, and other officials of the Public Works Department and GSIDC, inspected the stretch of the ring road extending from Apollo Hospital to Rawanfond junction.

Following the inspection, the authorities issued instructions to the police, urging them to prohibit the parking of vehicles and trucks at Rawanfond junction to facilitate the beautification works planned for the stretch. This strategic approach aims to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted execution of the planned beautification works, creating a more visually appealing environment and improving the overall ambiance along the ring road.
During a press interaction, MLA Digambar Kamat stated that the inspection revealed several encroachments along the sides of the ring road. “The Margao Municipal Council has been instructed to clear all encroachments promptly to facilitate the proposed beautification works. Warnings have been issued to those involved in encroachment activities,” said Kamat.
Around 13 gaddas (food stalls) have already been shifted to alternative locations, and the authorities aim to complete the clearance of all encroachments by January 1, he added. MLA Kamat also mentioned past efforts during his tenure as Chief Minister to acquire 1.40 lakh square metres of land for truck terminals at Madel, Fatora. However, the project faced challenges and remains incomplete.
“The issue of trucks parking on roadsides at various locations could potentially have been resolved if the truck terminal project at Madel had seen the light of day,” said Kamat.
