Margao elders fear burglars may sneak in guise of waste collectors

MARGAO: With Margao Municipal workers engaged for door-to-door waste collection moving around housing societies in the commercial capital hit by a spate of burglaries in recent months, the Forum for senior citizens of India has said that the movement of workers has created insecurity and fears in the minds of citizens putting up in flats and apartments.

The senior citizens feared that burglars and anti-socials may take advantage of the situation by effecting entry into the housing societies by posing as municipal workers.
A delegation of senior citizen led by Forum President Diogo Da Costa called on Margao Municipal Chief Officer Narayan Sawant and voiced their concern over the movement of workers engaged for door-to-door waste collection.
During discussions, the delegation stressed on the need to issue uniforms and identify cards to the workers, saying the civic body would not be in a position to exercise control on the workers given their casual status.
The delegation impressed upon the civic body to instruct the workers not to enter within the housing societies so as to maintain a sense of security amongst the residents.
