MARGAO: A group of Margao citizens, under the banner ‘Goa with Love’ (GWL) and with of guidance of resident Trifino Pacheco, will hold an awareness drive on how Margao citizens can manage their garbage.
At the Herald-HCN debate, Trifino pointed out that councillors and residents did not have any clue or education about garbage management. Taking a cue from there, GWL will host Margao citizens, institute heads and others at the municipality hall from 4 – 5.30 pm on July 11 to discuss garbage management.
“We want to tell people that they are important as citizens of Margao and to recognize their ability to be an agent of change, which is the need of the hour to keep our Margao clean and green,” said Trifino.
GWL believes that no infrastructure can tackle each household generating one kg and above of garbage every day, and hence, people themselves have to manage their garbage.
“Our endeavour is to empower our citizens and councillors through information so that we can collectively tackle this issue, which has now assumed epidemical proportions. Hence, we have called this meeting,” said a GWL member.
At the workshop, Campal resident Patricia Pinto, who worked tirelessly as a Corporation of the City of Panjim’s co-opted member to start a door-to-door fully-sorted garbage collection drive, will share the dais with Rosario Dantes, who pioneered Curchorem’s success in garbage management and Salcete’s Clinton Vaz, who manages recyclable garbage across many panchayats in Goa.
Trifino and his team are grateful that Herald-HCN initiated this process and got Margao talking about garbage management.
