The Market committee Chairman Vinod Shirodkar has given an ultimatum to the MMC and the MLAs of Margao and Fatorda to stop further permissions to the exhibitions as soon as possible or face agitations, next week.
Shirodkar and the vendors have been taking up the issue of the exhibition cum sale in Margao and Fatorda for years now.
“The exhibition cum sale previously on BPS Club ground and lately on the SGPDA ground has already caused a loss of crores of rupees to the market vendors for years now. We are going through a bad phase due to the exhibition cum sale and it has to stop right away,” Vinod warned.
“If the MMC doesn’t stop holding sale, we will lead an agitation to the MMC and to the residences of Margao and Fatorda MLAs.” Shirodkar threatened.
“The Digambar Kamat and Vijai Sardessai have been promising us lots of things, but are not fulfilling any of our demands, the most important of which is stopping of exhibition cum sale in Margao and Fatorda area,” said Shirodkar.
BPS Club in Margao which used to be the previous favourite venue of exhibition cum sale has stopped hosting the shopping expos since last few years and the SGPDA Ground has now become the hot favourite.
The SGPDA Ground now hosts several sales back to back. It may be recalled that because the matter is sub-judice, the MMC and the MLAs have shied away from taking any clear action on the demands of the Market Committee demands.
