MARGAO: In a bid to enhance passenger comfort, Margao Railway Station on Tuesday became the first railway station in the country to provide a battery-operated car service.
The Konkan Railway on Tuesday introduced battery-operated car at the function held at the Margao railway station. Santosh Kumar Jha, Director (Operations and Commercial), launched the battery-operated car at the station’s platform No. 1. Officials said that passengers can avail this service at Rs 50 per head besides digital payments will also be accepted. Senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PwDs), pregnant women and sick will be accorded priority, as the service will be made available for passengers through advance booking on priority.
The service for those passengers without prior booking will be on ‘first-come, first-serve’ basis, said Jha.
He said that this is a new initiative of the Konkan Railway will also be available at the other railway platforms in the coming days. This service was first introduced at Margao Railway Station and nowhere else in the country by the Konkan Railway.
“Margao is one of the most important railway stations which witnesses thousands of tourists and hence KRC is working hard to provide more and more passenger-friendly services,” said Jha.
He stated that KRC is working hard in improving passenger travel experience at Margao Railway station.
