Margao Shigmo will take regular route: CM

PANJIM: Notwithstanding any resolution passed by the Margao Municipal Council Shigmotsav committee on shifting of the Shigmo parade,

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Tuesday told the House that the traditional parade will be held on the existing annual route passing through city.
The Shigmotsav committee proposed that the ensuing Shigmo parade be shifted to the Colva Circle- Ravindra Bhavan route.
“There is no need for fear and anxiety on the issue of route change. The existing route passing through the main city has been traditional route. I feel we should continue with it,” Parsekar said appealing to the politicians not to interfere and politicize the issue.
The chief minister said that the congestion due to Shigmo parade is not new as it has been witnessing since last 20-25 years.
Parsekar was replying to the calling attention motion moved by Fatorda Independent MLA Vijay Sardessai who placed on record the unanimous resolution passed by the South Goa Collector, SP Traffic (South) and the elected Municipal Council in adopting the new route from Colva Circle to Ravindra Bhavan road as has been followed in the recent past.
“These authorities are on record that the inconvenience is caused to the general public due to total traffic paralysis and potential law and order situation due to organizing the parade in the heart of the city of Margao,” Sardessai said. He informed that House that SP Traffic has recommended to government that the new Ravindra Bhavan route be declared as permanent route for all kind of float parade in the city.
