Margao’s ageing pipes being replaced

MARGAO: Work on replacing the ageing, corroded and Portuguese era underground water pipelines in the commercial capital got underway on Thursday.

Former Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a new 300 dia underground pipe line at the Varde Valaulikar road at an estimated cost of Rs 74 lakh.
He told the media that plans are afoot to replace all the ageing and corroded underground water pipelines from the city in phases. “The next project will be taken up in the Aquem fire station area, which also requires immediate replacement. The new water pipelines will bring relief to the people in terms of water pressure,” he said, while asserting that the time has come to replace all pre-liberation water pipelines from the city and replace them with the new 300 dia pipes.
