Mauvin alleges scam in GSL recruitment process

Says Goans are deliberately not recruited, demands impartial probe

VASCO: Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho has alleged scam in the recruitment process at the Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL), Vasco.
He said that the high level officers at GSL have been rejecting the rightful employment opportunities to the Goan youth and are directly importing candidates either from outside state who are either some officer’s relation or they have been selected for some other considerations.
Addressing newsmen in Vasco on Thursday, Mauvin alleged that, “recently the GSL, which is a Government of India undertaking shipyard and falls directly under the Ministry of Defence, had started recruitment drive for various posts. However, not a single Goan youth was given employment.”
Stating that denial of employment to locals at Goa Shipyard Limited is a serious issue, Mauvin said, “Several people have made representations before me that though the locals have been applying for employment opportunities in the GSL, none of them got selected even after appearing for written exams.”
Mauvin said he suspects that question papers are leaked to candidates from outside due to which they clear the exams and get absorbed by the GSL. “The persons absorbed by the GSL don’t even know to write a single sentence properly,” he claimed.
“The GSL officers deliberately fail the locals even if they answer well the written test,” he alleged.
“If the GSL is not going to employ a single Goan, then for whose benefit it is operating at Vasco? he questioned and demanded a probe into the recruitments made by the GSL.
Mauvin said that he would take up the matter personally with Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
