MARGAO: As Congress leaders from down South shared the party platform for the first time post-2012 Assembly polls, Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho was the lone MLA from South conspicuous by his absence on the dais at the Lohia Maidan.
GPCC President John Fernandes said Mauvin’s absence will not affect the party, saying, “Mauvin has just one vote, while thousands of party workers have turned up at the Lohia Maidan today to support the party”.
John replied in the positive when a scribe sought to know whether the party has decided to ignore Mauvin’s absence. He said there’s no need to draw attention of the party high command to Mauvin’s decision to abstain from the meeting.
Barring Mauvin, party MLAs from down South – Digambar Kamat, Reginaldo Lourenco and Babu Kavlekar – all turned up for the meeting. Besides, party leaders, including defeated candidates in the 2012 Assembly polls, were present in strength. The Alemao brothers, Churchill and Joaquim, Digambar Kamat, Filipe Neri Rodrigues, Babu Azgaonkar, Isidore Fernandes, besides Ravi Naik and Pratapsing Rane and John Fernandes all shared the dais.
