Bicholim: The farmers from Mayem have given an ultimatum to the authorities to save their fields from getting destroyed and threatened to stop the mining ore transportation if the issue not resolved.
The Mayem farmers led by Sakharam Pednekar alleged that due to the extent of mining, during the monsoon all the sludge will enter their farms. Pointing out that there are many farms called ‘Mula Khaane’ within the distance of one kilometre, he said 90% of the farmers have ploughed their fields and that it’s the responsibility of the government to save these farms.
“We have given a memorandum, submitted complaints regarding the ore entering our fields but the authorities are not ready to listen,” he mentioned.
The farmers added that they are giving an ultimatum and if their problems are not resolved, they will halt the ore transportation from Thursday. They also demanded that government should inspect the fields.
