DABOLIM: Passengers travelling from Dabolim airport to Panjim could soon avail of KTC bus facilities, if a proposal submitted to the Airport Advisory Committee (AAC) is accepted and implemented by authorities.
Strict surveillance to keep animals from straying on the runway and taxiway was among the other issues discussed at an AAC meeting chaired by South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar on Saturday to take stock of facilities and problems at the airport.
Others present  included airport director K Srinivasa Rao, Cortalim MLA Mauvino Godinho, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida and other stakeholders.
Speaking to Herald, Sawaikar said the airport director had placed a proposal before the AAC to start a KTC bus service from the airport to Panjim for the benefit of the passengers who wish to travel by bus to Panjim.
Commenting on poor facilities and infrastructure at Dabolim airport, Sawaikar stated that work on a new Dabolim Police station is underway.
“Within a few months, the police station will be shifted to its new location at the old airport terminal,” Sawaikar said.
He informed that the issue of stray dogs reportedly moving on the runway of the airport also came up for discussion.
“This issue was taken up with the airport director and he has assured to direct his ground staff to be more vigilant in future,” he stated.
The south Goa MP informed that he has directed the airport director to put up necessary signages on Goan culture and to put up banners and other paintings depicting Goa’s tourism and culture
Sawaikar assured that efforts would be made to enhance facilities for civilian aircraft at Dabolim airport.
“Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has already promised to boost the civilian airport at Dabolim and being a Goan he is aware of issues pertaining to the airport,” Sawaikar said.
