Members of Margao masjids hail verdict on Ayodhya issue

MARGAO, OCT 1
Members of the Jama Masjid, Malbhat and other masjids have welcomed the verdict of the Allahabad High Court on the Ayodhya land dispute and called for peace and harmony in the State.
“We welcome the verdict, we are happy that it has not gone in favour of any one party. The time has come for all the people to maintain harmony”, said Shaikh Moinuddin, president of the Kabrastan.
President of the Jama Masjid Mohammed Nazib Saudagar, said that Goa has always been a peaceful State, where Hindus, Christians and Muslims have lived peacefully over the decades. “We hope that the verdict will in no way affect the bond of brotherhood”, he added.
Commissioner for NRI Affairs, Eduardo Faleiro said the Congress Party was correct when it maintained a stand that the courts should decide on the issue. “If anyone is not satisfied with the verdict, there is a higher court. There is no point in getting agitated. We must show that the differences can be solved through the judiciary”, Faleiro added.
In a statement, UGDP Vice-President Adv Radharao Gracias said the destruction of the “Babri Masjid” by Hindu fundamentalists in the year 1992 and the destruction of World Trade Center by Islamist terrorists in 2001 is both unlawful and criminal.
“The Muslims are all set to build a mosque at or near the place where the terrorists owing elegance to Islam killed over 3,000 innocent people and feel justified in building the mosque. That being so it would be natural for the Muslims to permit the Hindus to build a Ram temple at the site of the demolished Babri Masjid since the place is of great religious significance to the Hindus. Such a mosque in place of the demolished WTC and the temple to replace the demolished Babri Masjid should be a permanent solution to the problem”, Radharao added.
Vasco Reporter: Appealing for communal harmony in the State, All Indian Milli Council (AIMC), Goa President Iqbal Mohidin has said the Ayodhya verdict should be accepted positively in true Indian spirit and should not be taken as a victory or defeat by any party.
Mohidin, who is also a trustee of the Masjit-e-Noor at Dabolim, has appealed to leaders from both communities to refrain from going in appeal to the Apex court, as it would create an atmosphere of uncertainty, fear and mistrust in the country.
“The Ayodhya issue has caused enough damage to entire country in general and both the communities in particular,” said Mohidin.
“It is high time that we respect the High Court verdict and build a temple and mosque in Ayodhya in true Indian tradition and also building a bridge of compassion, harmony and peaceful co-existence in the country,” said Mohidin.
He further added that politicians should keep themselves away from this sensitive issue.
“Only broad-minded and peace-loving members of both communities should mediate between the two groups to settle the issue once and for all, keeping in mind the unity and stability of the country,” he said.
