Men and women short and work suffers unduly

Work at Pernem Municipality has been affected by the shortage of staff and recruitments have not been made despite interviews being conducted

Shortage of staff at Pernem Municipality hampering work, people facing inconvenience.
The people of Pernem are complaining of having to make several visits to the Pernem municipality to get their work done. This the people claim is due to the shortage of staff in the administrative section.
A local said  “People are forced to visit the municipality again and again to get a single certificate even after waiting in queues for several hours. Every time the person issuing the certificate requests them to come the next day”.
With only single Upper Division Clerk (UDC) and single lower Division Clerk (LDC) working at the Pernem municipality, they handle the overall functioning of the municipality which includes issuing of certificates to handling the accounts to other clerical work.
Sources said that they are over burdened with overall work of the municipality which   then affects the people visiting the municipality to get different certificates. People are made to wait for days and sometimes for weeks to get single certificates such as Birth, Death, residence or any other documents.
Sources informed that even to get one birth certificate, people have to wait for hours in line and sometimes for days to get the certificate in hand. Sources revealed the municipality had recently conducted interviews for LDC posts however the result was not declared by the municipality and even after a very visible shortage of staff, no new recruitment was made.
Including the administrative section, there is shortage of staff in other sections such as technical, sanitary, accounts and others too which is overall hampering the work of the municipality.
When contact the CO of Pernem Municipal council Gautami Parmekar said  “There is shortage of staff but soon we will be hiring new recruits and filling up the posts. According to new government circular there is ban on permanent recruits so now we will be hiring on staff on contract basis”.
