Merces panch death case transferred to Crime Branch

PANJIM: Goa Police on Wednesday transferred the death case of former Merces sarpanch Prakash Naik to Crime Branch. 
Police sources said the case has bee transferred following demand from the deceased family for an impartial investigation. “The Naik family had been demanding to transfer the case from Old Goa police. We have done so to ensure there are no allegations of impartial or biased probe,” said the source. 
The investigation papers of the FIR registered under section 306 (abetment to suicide) will soon be handed over to Crime Branch. 
Naik, on January 17 had allegedly shot himself at his residence. In his WhatsApp message, Naik had alleged that harassment by two persons. 
Police have booked Wilson Godinho and Tahir for abetment of suicide.
