PANJIM:  A no-confidence motion has been moved against MGP president Deepak Dhavalikar by 27 members of the party for illegally holding the position without any election and for failing to call for general body meeting in last six years.

Dhavalikar, however, has questioned the constitutional validity of such no-confidence motion, even as the party’s Central Committee will take a final call on the motion.

A group of 27 members on Sunday moved the motion against Dhavalikar accusing him on various counts including not holding elections in 2019, illegally occupying the chair of the president for the year 2020, failing to address the issues raised by the members, and for not holding general body meetings for last 6 years.

They also accused Dhavalikar of “illegally removing General Secretary Lavoo Mamledar from the post.”

“Our MGP party, the oldest local party, has so far retained its position intact as the political front in Goa, which has become possible due to hard work, efforts, devotion and sincerity of all MGP voters, workers and delegated and their full support to the members of the Central Committee,” the motion submitted to the Central Committee, reads.

“However, in the recent past, that is during the last six years, it is noticed that there are a lot of irregularities committed which we strongly object,” they said.

The members also alleged manipulations in the working and the functioning of the party and also charged the president of misusing the party funds.

Speaking to media persons, MGP vice president Ratnakant Mardolkar confirmed about receiving No-Confidence Motion against the party president, which is based on various grounds.

“The Central Committee will take final decision on the motion. The meeting will be held in next eight to ten days,” he said.

Mardolkar also informed that the Central Committee elections, which were supposed to be held this month, were postponed due to COVID pandemic.

Meanwhile, reacting to the motion, Dhavalikar pointed out that the Constitution of the party does not give any right for moving such a motion. He said that the election for the post of Central Committee was supposed to be held earlier but was deferred due to Zilla Panchayat elections and also COVID-19 pandemic.

He said that the election would be held within a month or two. Dhavalikar said the general body of the party has 700 members and holding their meeting was not allowed during pandemic.
