PANJIM: Bhartiya Janata Party in Goa reacting to the statement made by its coalition partner MGP, has said that they are free to break away from the coalition and it won’t affect BJP in the coming polls.
BJP Vice President Dr Wilfred Misquita said “everybody is free to work in any constituency, even if they want to break away coalition they are free to it won’t be affecting BJP.”
BJP’s reaction comes a day after MGP has expressed its displeasure with its coalition partner after an executive committee meeting on Saturday.
MGP had said that they would take decision on joining hands with BJP only three months prior to the elections.
“The party will decide on whether to continue with alliance or not only three months before the elections in Goa. Many of our workers are not happy with the attitude of BJP leaders,” MGP President Dipak Dhavalikar had said on Saturday while speaking to reporters.
Interestingly, just a day before, BJP President Vinay Tendulkar had said that BJP wants to contest the coming election in coalition with MGP.
MGP has already commenced its work for the 2017 Goa assembly polls and it plans to contest from 22 constituencies.
MGP, Goa’s oldest regional party, had ruled the state for 18 years from 1963 onwards before Congress emerged as a strong political force. The party during 2005-2012 tenure was in coalition with Congress, but later shifted its loyalty to BJP and fought 2012 polls by seat sharing with the saffron party.
