MAYEM: The Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal (MWDT), based in New Delhi, will commence its hearing on the Mhadei matter on September 3. The Goa government team is already in New Delhi and is busy working at its office based at Chanakya Puri, New Delhi.
It may be recalled that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had made it clear that his government will make all possible attempts to get justice to Goa. Advocate General of Goa Atmaram Nadkarni also played a vital role to make the Karnataka government to plug both the vents of Kalsa canal to stop water flowing to Malprabha. Accordingly, the plugging work of both the vents was completed by May 31.
Rajendra Kerkar, environmentalist, has already expressed fear that taking the matter of Mhadei water damming and diverting to the Tribunal is risky, as it deals with water share.
Superintendent engineers of Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra jointly submitted the report before the Tribunal and other follow-up action taken by Karnataka will be discussed at length. Goa’s objection to Virdi dam in Maharashtra will also come for hearing before the Tribunal.
Superintendent engineer Shreekant Patil, EE Gopinath Desai and AE Suresh Babu under the guidance of chief engineer Sandeep Nadkarni have already planned the strategy in consultation with Advocate General of Goa to protect the interest of Goa before the Tribunal.
Meanwhile, WRD Minister Dayanand Mandrekar said, “We are confident about the Mhadei case and we will get positive result, as our case is very strong and Karnataka was involved in many irregularities which will come out during the hearing.”
