Panjim, March 4: The central Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership today virtually distanced itself from intervening in the Mhadei water diversion dispute with Karnataka saying it is a matter between the two states.
Despite the Supreme Court giving a go ahead for setting up a tribunal for resolving the dispute, Karnataka is still going ahead with the construction of dam.
Replying to queries from reporters during a press conference, BJP senior leader Gopinath Munde, said “water diversion dispute is a matter within two states and not the party.”
Asked what the party’s stand on the issue is, Munde reluctantly replied, “I have no knowledge on the issue but we will try and take up the issue with Karnataka government.”
Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar intervened and said that the party has assured its support to the Digambar Kamat government on the issue.
“We are totally backing the government on the issue and there are no two ways about it,” he said.
