Mhadei issue: MLA says govt has no powers to fight

PANJIM: Slamming the BJP-led State government for its lethargic approach on the contentious Mhadei River water diversion issue, Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte on Saturday said that Pramod Sawant government has no powers to fight and hence cannot be trusted.
As the Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) Prakash Javdekar failed to withdraw the consent letter granted to Karnataka’s Kalasa-Bhandura water diversion project off Mhadei basin, even after 10 days, as assured, Chief Minister is confident of positive response from the Central Minister in next few days.
The Opposition, has however, cornered government for its failure to get the consent letter withdrawn. After Congress and Goa Forward Party, Khaunte has hit out at State government on social media through his series of tweets.
“The matter of #MhadeiRiver impacts every single Goenkar and this lethargic approach by State government only shows how the current leadership has no power and cannot be trusted to preserve Goenkarponn,” he said. Former minister said that the silence and powerlessness of Chief Minister has left Goenkars feeling betrayed once again.
