PANJIM: After facing backlash over his statement on Mhadei, AICC Goa in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao has said that his statement was “misinterpreted”.

During his first visit to Goa after being nominated as Goa desk-incharge, Rao, former Karnataka Minister, had said that each State will have to fight for its right. He had even maintained that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should have intervened to bring an amicable solution on the issue.
His comment was strongly criticised by the Progressive Front of Goa (PFG), which has threatened Rao against entering the State and had even burnt his effigy.
“My statement has been misinterpreted on news of the Mhadei issue,” Rao tweeted.
He further tweeted that the case of the Mhadei River water allocation dispute is in the Supreme Court and in his view the issue should finally be settled by the Apex Court. “Yet another opinion expressed by me is that the dispute would have been settled sooner if the Prime Minister had intervened,” Rao tweeted.
“There is no change in my statement on this,” AICC leader said.
PFG had accused Congress of being part of BJP’s game to sell Mhadei. However, the Goa Congress unit had fully backed Rao’s statement.
“Rao’s statement was very clear that each State will fight to protect its people’s interest. And in Goa, we Congress have been doing that,” Congress President Girish Chodankar had said.
