Mickky dares Vijai for debate

MARGAO: Goa Vikas Party supremo MLA Mickky Pacheco on Thursday dared Independent MLA Vijai Sardesai for an open debate on the Mopa airport imbroglio, accusing the Fatorda MLA of being silent when the then Congress government had de-notified the Dabolim airport parking land and initiated the land acquisition proceedings for Mopa.

Reacting to Sardessai’s demand for resignation of the GVP MLAs on the airport issue, Mickky reminded Vijai that he was the Congress general secretary when the Digambar Kamat government had de-notified the Dabolim airport parking land. ‘Then Revenue Minister, Jose Philip D’Souza was Vijai’s close friend. He should tell the people of Goa why he did not open his mouth when the Congress government had de-notified the airport parking land. It was not certainly done in the interest of the GVP or the BJP. Why did Vijai not raise his voice when his own Congress government had initiated the land acquisition proceedings”, he demanded to know.
Mickky said the Airport Authority of India had called for acquisition of land for the Dabolim airport parking, but the previous Congress government had de-notified the process.
Saying that he will fight till the last to retain Dabolim as Goa’s only international airport, Mickky said “I have already discussed the issue with the Chief Minister. I don’t want to bring people on the streets on the issue and spoil the peace and harmony in the State”, Mickky said.
