Mickky demands recovery of agricultural subsidy paid to Nuvem MLA’s wife

MARGAO: Former minister Mickky Pacheco on Saturday demanded that the government recover the entire amount paid to Freda D’Sa, the wife of Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa (Babashan) as subsidy over the years for the Krishi card she obtained based on a false affidavit and asked the Congress Party to look into the affairs of its own MLA before raising irrelevant issues.
Asserting that this was a fraud to usurp crores of rupees from the government treasury, Mickky said that even he was a victim of this scam; when Babashan and he were close pals, Babashan used his harvesting machines in Nuvem village for the Nuvem Krishi Saunstha.
He said that he had personally paid lakhs of rupees to Babashan to be paid as subsidy from the agriculture department to farmers who used his harvester, as the department used to pay the subsidy amount to him. Mickky alleged that Freda has Krishi cards of many fields as caretaker of those fields and implied that such cards were used to collect subsidy.
Replying to a question, he said that the matter has to be thoroughly investigated and even the Notary before whom the false affidavit was sworn-in should be investigated.
Attacking the Congress party, he said the victory in the three states recently were purely because of the promise to farmers to waive their loans and wondered how such promises could be made when their own party men were involved in taking subsidies meant for farmers through fraudulent means.
“Pratima Coutinho, who talks about every single issue, should investigate the doings of their party MLA’s wife who is also a panchayat member in obtaining Krishi Cards through falsehoods,” he said and demanded that the amount given as subsidy to Freda D’Sa be recovered.
Mickky opined that Freda must have collected lakhs of rupees by way of subsidy from the government since the time she got the Krishi Card made in the year 2014 and demanded that her husband Babashan should resign as an MLA for being a party to his wife’s wrong deeds.
