Mickky for ZP polls on party lines

MARGAO: BJP-led moves to hold the ensuing Zilla Panchayat polls on party lines has found favour with its alliance partner, Salcete-based Goa Vikas Party (GVP).

Contrary to reservations expressed by South Goa ZP Chairperson and GVP leader, Nelly Rodrigues, GVP supremo Mickky Pacheco on Saturday said that there is no harm in holding ZP or Panchayat polls on party lines on condition that the government enact anti-defection law to curb defections. “I find no harm in holding ZP poll on party lines on the condition that the government brings the anti-defection law,’ he said.
The RDA Minister said the government had consultation with him on the issue, adding that he has given his nod provided the anti-defection law is brought simultaneously to curb defections. “Let the political parties test their strength by contesting the polls on party lines,” he added.
