MARGAO, JULY 1
Former Tourism Minister Mickky Pacheco has become the second politician from Goa, who has failed to get anticipatory bail from the Country’s Apex court in the last six months.
In January last, Russian woman rape accused, John Fernandes – who incidentally is the bête noire of Pacheco – had failed to get anticipatory bail from the Supreme Court in the rape case.
With all doors closed, John had no option than to surrender before the Crime branch probing into the rape case.
While speculations are rife that that Pacheco would finally make himself available himself for interrogations by the crime branch, the sessions court is likely to pronounce its order on the framing of charges against John in the rape case on Friday.
Incidentally, John has been languishing in jail since his surrender in the week of January this year, with his applications for bail not finding favour with the Sessions court as well as the high court.
Both John and Pacheco had fought the electoral battle in Benaulim, wherein the challenger of the former Tourism Minister lost the seat by a thin margin.
Incidentally, while John had held Pacheco responsible for creating a big noise on the rape case saying that Goa is becoming the rape capital of the country, the former Tourism Minister has termed the charges levelled against him as politically motivated. He had gone a step ahead and said that the government is after his blood because he had asked for a judicial probe into the drugs racket involving the son of a politician and the excise scam.
