MARGAO, JULY 26
Sessions Court order granting bail to Mickky Pacheco finally brought smiles on the faces his supporters, but the supporters made it amply clear to the government that they will not rest till the false charges registered against their leader are dropped.
Pacheco’s sister Nifa praised God and thanked the lawyer for doing justice to her brother.
No sooner Judge Desphande pronounced his orders in the open court room on Monday morning, Pacheco’s supporters sitting in the open court room heaved a sigh of relief as many of them came out to convey the message to the supporters waiting outside.
His supporters profusely thanked and congratulated Adv Anacleto Viegas for successfully arguing Pacheco’s case in the court.
Armed with a placard that Mickky is a messiah of the poor, a supporter Kalekar thanked the Judiciary, Adv Viegas and others for granting bail.
Another strong supporter of the former tourism minister from Nuvem, Joe, expressed his satisfaction over the granting of bail by the court.
He, however, said the next course of action will be chalked out till the government drops all false charges against the former Minister.
The supporters garlanded Adv Anacleto Viegas after he came out of the court building.
Adv Viegas thanked the Judiciary for doing justice for Pacheco, saying that the people would have been at the mercy of the powers that be if there was no independent Judiciary in the country.
Questioning the logic of the police for custodial interrogations, Adv Viegas said custodial interrogations was used only in archaic society and asked the administration to move with the changing times.
In this respect, he called for setting up a well equipped forensic laboratory in the state, besides a detective agency to detect growing crimes. “Our whole outlook must change. When we spent crores of rupees on Kala Academy, funds should be spent on a scientific forensic laboratory and a detective agency”, he demanded.
