PERNEM: Issues of unemployment, releasing of waste water into the sea, garbage and the rising migrant population took center stage at the Arambol gram sabha held, recently.
The discussion began with the unemployment issue wherein the villagers said that many youth in the village are unemployed because resorts and hotels coming up in the area are hiring outsiders.
The villagers then questioned the panchayat how many village youth are employed in a resort at Kepkarwada-Arambol that was inaugurated recently. They demanded that based on education and experience, the local youth be given first preference.
Further, the locals raised the concern over the left over bamboo sticks on the beach that are causing inconvenience to the visitors.
A local said left over parts of the bamboo used to erect shacks are not removed and are causing injuries to the visitors along with the problem of free movement on the beach.
It was then resolved to write to the Tourism Department regarding the issue. The villagers further demanded to action against those houses leaving waste water into the sea as many houses on the beach side do not have their own soak pits.
They also demanded that panchayat along with Pernem Police to conduct a survey in the village, as there is a rise in number of migrant population.
