Milk will be cheap by Rs 2: Parrikar

PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the assembly during Question Hour that he would get the price of milk reduced by Rs 2 and try to reduce the quantity of milk imported from outside the State.

PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the assembly during Question Hour that he would get the price of milk reduced by Rs 2 and try to reduce the quantity of milk imported from outside the State.
He also said that he would abolish the cess on milk from the next financial year or even earlier if possible.
While answering a member’s question Parrikar also said that people who owed money on milk imports had to clear their arrears and notices had already been sent to them. Parrikar also said that let the person who was interested state his willingness to pay and then the government could take a call on giving them some concessions.
 He stated that government had collected cess of Rs 91,84,854 from March 2012 till date and sent notices to six defaulters for recovery of cess on milk.
In another question on irregularities in the Serula Comunidade, the government said that an inquiry was on into the said irregularities. The question pertained to irregularities in the Serula comunidade committed by the ex committee, ex attorney, clerk incharge and others. The answer also said that action as per the law would be taken once the inquiry was completed.
