MAYEM: Mini-Tillari canal supplying water to Tervan Medhe in Dodamarg district in Maharashtra breached at Palye Tite in Tillari-Maharashtra on Monday.
According to sources, a right canal of the Tervan Medhe mini dam belonging to Tillari irrigation project breached due to inferior quality of work and dumping of mud without proper rolling, due to which water gushed into nearby agricultural farms destroying it. Three wells were also filled with mud.
Shiv Sena Palye taluka Chief Pradeep Naik, Shiv Sena Palye unit Chief Vithal Dalvi and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Chief Michael Lobo have demanded thorough inquiry into the matter.
The incident will not affect farmers from northern parts of Goa. However, the farmers have not ruled out the possibilities of stoppage of water from the Tillari irrigation project like last year if such incidents continue to take place. It may be recalled that last year, the main canal of the Tillari irrigation dam linking Goa breached, causing hardships to farmers from Bicholim, Pernem and Bardez.
