Mining dependents to continue agitation

PANJIM: Expressing its dissatisfaction over the financial package offered by State government, the mining dependent people protesting at Azad Maidan, Panjim decided to continue their agitation till their demand of lifting the ban on mining is met.
The mining dependent people have been protesting for the last 18 days.
Goa Mining Peoples’ Front (GMPF) has commended the government for seeking cabinet approval to the mining affidavit, which urges Supreme Court to vacate the mining ban. “However, the mining stakeholders have decided to continue their ongoing protest, till their demands are fully met. We have demanded immediate resumption of legal mining on sustained and scientific manner,” GMPF convener Adv Suhaas Naik said.
The GMPF has decided to review and chalk-out future strategy within the next few days, by an overall review of the entire situation. GMPF has also said that the dole promised by state government to the people affected with closure of mining activity was “not enough to live a life of dignity.”
The government, during the recently concluded state legislative assembly session had assured to provide monthly cash compensation of Rs 3,000 to Rs 6,000 for people affected by the mining ban.
