PANJIM: Central Bureau of Investigation does not require its permission to investigate cases pertaining to illegally extracted ore in Karnataka and shipped through Goa, State government has said, even as it offered to provide complete assistance in the investigation related to export of iron ore from its two major ports – Panjim and Mormugao Port Trust.
In an official communique to the government, CBI had said it was inquiring into transportation of Karnataka origin ore through Goan ports to China. Sources said the CBI sleuths have requested the State to share information, including ore export documents as part of their inquiry.
Highly placed official confirmed that CBI does not require State government’s permission or intervention to investigate into the illegal mining in Karnataka and its export through Goa ports.
“Goa government never had any say regarding CBI investigation into the illegal mining in Karnataka. The State is willing to provide all help that is required,” an official disclosed.
The officials also added that the CBI will have to get in touch with the MPT and Captain of Ports, from where they suspect that the illegal ore was exported.
