SANGUEM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar assured truck and mining machinery owners that the mining activity in the State will commence by end of February 2014.
The assurance came after the mining affected people briefed Parrikar during his visit at Kalay-Sanguem on Sunday, of the financial problems faced by them and the difficulties envisaged by the mining affected people due to the abrupt closure of mining activities in the State for more than a year.
Parrikar also visited the Kalay Agricultural Farm situated across 6 lakh sq mtrs of government land in Kalay. The villagers brought to fore the employment avenues at the Kalay Agricultural Farm. They complained to the chief minister of the step-motherly treatment meted to the villagers by those manning the agricultural farm.
The villagers informed that during recent years, the recruitment policy at Kalay Farm has been changed with a large number of employees being appointed from outside the village.
“While initially the farm had majority employees from the village, over the last few years the number of locals employed at the farm has come down to six,” complained a villager.
Parrikar assured the villagers to look into their grievances but at the same time gave a lucrative offer to the villagers. He asked the villagers to form a group of about 40 to 50 people and undertake agricultural activity in a portion of the Kalay Agricultural Farm. Parrikar assured the villagers to provide about 10 hectares of the vacant agricultural land for the benefit of the villagers to undertake agricultural activities.
Parrikar also assured to provide all support to the villagers in undertaking agricultural activities and also support from the government in selling the agricultural produce.
Parrikar also assured the panchayat members of completing the incomplete work of the panchayat building under the Goa Infrastructure Development Corporation.
During the visit to the village, Parrikar was accompanied by Sanvordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar, Sarpanch Vaishali Vaikunth Naik, Deputy Sarpanch Balo Rekdo, Panchas Vilas Bicholkar, Santosh Gaonkar, Kishor Dessai, Vishant Kutkar and others.
