MARGAO: Minister for Ports, Science and Technology and Waste Management Michael Lobo on Saturday called for an urgent meeting of the chairpersons of biodiversity management committees of the villages opposing dredging of River Sal to discuss the grievances.
The biodiversity management committees of Assolna, Chinchinim, Cavelossim, Varca, Carmona, Telaulim, Orlim, Velim and Naquerim Betul Village Panchayats will be held on January 4, in the mini conference hall, Secretariat, Porvorim, at 11 am.
The BMC chairpersons have been requested to preferably attend the same to put forth their grievances on behalf of the villagers and concerned and clarify the details.
It may be recalled that various villages have written letters to the Captain of Ports and the Biodiversity Board of Goa opposing the dredging of the River Sal. The work of dredging/desilting the River Sal river was about to begin.
