Mirabag Residents Renew Protest Against Proposed Bhandara Project in Sanguem

Residents of Mirabag in Sanguem have once again intensified their opposition to the proposed Bhandara project in their area, expressing fears that the development could lead to large-scale submergence of the village.

Locals allege that if the project goes ahead, water from the Zuari river would be diverted towards the Bhandara, causing multiple parts of Mirabag to be flooded. They claim that the tidal movements of the Zuari could result in severe inundation, putting homes and key community structures at risk.

According to the protestors, several residential houses, the revered Rakhandev temple, other places of worship, and a local school could be submerged if the project is implemented. They argue that the project poses a serious threat to their livelihood, heritage, and safety.

The residents have warned that their agitation will continue until the project is completely scrapped. They further stated that if their demands are not addressed, they are prepared to escalate their protest and intensify their opposition in the coming days.
