PONDA: Two riders had a miraculous escape when two electricity poles came crashing down after a coconut tree got uprooted due to sudden rains and gusty winds opposite the PWD water supply department at Dag-Ponda on Saturday evening.
Speaking to Herald, the two riders – Manohar Naik and pillion rider Anil Naik –said they were proceeding on a two-wheeler from Kavlem towards Ponda at about 3.30 pm when a coconut tree came crashing down due to strong winds.
The tree brought down two electricity poles and they were caught between the two poles and the electricity wires.
To their fortune, the current on the electricity wires tripped immediately and locals managed to get them out from the dangling wires. A fire tender later went to the site to clear the debris.
