MLA Sankalp Amonkar Flags Massive Hike in Land Rates in Mormugao, Says Common People Affected

MLA Sankalp Amonkar on Wednesday raised serious concerns in the Goa Legislative Assembly over the steep increase in revised minimum land rates in Mormugao taluka, stating that the sharp hike has placed land ownership beyond the reach of common citizens.

Amonkar pointed out that the revised rates have surged dramatically, ranging from 597 per cent to as high as 2,857 per cent. He said such an unprecedented increase has significantly escalated the cost of land transactions and has directly impacted ordinary people.

The MLA further noted that the sharp rise in minimum land rates has also resulted in higher stamp duty and tax payments, adding to the financial burden on residents. He urged the government to review the revised rates and consider corrective measures to ensure affordability and fairness.

The issue has sparked debate in the Assembly, with demands for a reassessment of land valuation policies in the interest of the public.
